The Orange and the Green

Sixty years ago, Ulster Television produced this documentary in what was the 50th anniversary year of the 1916 Easter Rising. A kind of state-of-the-nation assessment, it was produced for a UK audience and discusses how Northern Ireland and the Republic co-exist after partition. With opinion and comment from contributors in Belfast, Dublin & Cork including Denis Ireland, Cathal O’Shannon and an anonymous member of the IRA, among others. The film traces the impact of the Easter Rising on Ireland, and compares the two recently-formed states on social, economic and cultural grounds, asking the question: Will Ireland ever be reunited? Wild Horse Nine

Martin McDonagh returns with another tragi-comic two-hander with a razor-sharp script and outstanding performances from a stellar cast. After the success of The Banshees of Inisherin , McDonagh has turned his attention to Chile in the 1970s, where two CIA men discuss morality and mortality during a dispatch to the vanishingly remote and metaphorically rich Easter Island. With John Malkovich as the ailing Chris, mentor to Sam Rockwell’s Lee, and idiosyncratic support from Steve Buscemi, Parker Posey and Tom Waits, the film is an accidental allegory for present-day politics with trademark bittersweet notes, sweeping landscapes and strategically-placed horses.

All of a Sudden

The peerless director of Drive My Car and Evil Does Not Exist, Ryusuke Hamaguchi, returns with another deeply considered and exquisitely paced drama. His first film set in Europe, it follows the story of nursing home director, Marie-Lou, who, while at a professional impasse, meets terminally ill playwright, Mari. The two women forge a friendship based on shared language, experience and a desire to understand the world and attempt to make it better. A humane film that touches on the profound while being firmly rooted in everyday experience. Themes of aging, illness, care and empathy, art, communication and the human ability to reason are expertly offered with poise and grace. The two leads, Virginie Efira and Tao Okamoto, jointly won the Best Actress prize at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.

BECOME A MEMBER One of Brian Friel’s most enduring plays, Faith Healer returns in a production that brings together three acclaimed Northern Irish actors, Conleth Hill, Lisa Dwyer Hogg and Chris McCurry. Faith Healer weaves an extraordinary tale of a travelling healer who, after making his way through Wales and Scotland, returns to his homeland of Ireland in the hope of regaining his fading powers. Frank Hardy offers miracle cures to the sick and suffering, but as a man who is part showman, part shaman, his gift is astonishing and dangerously unreliable. Frank, his wife Grace, and his manager Teddy, each recounts their shared life on the road. As their memories clash and competing versions of the past emerge, Friel’s spellbinding prose crafts a powerful and haunting exploration of memory, belief and the stories we tell. Hailed by The Guardian (2024) as one of the greatest plays of the twentieth century, this play has captivated audiences internationally since its 1979 Broadway premiere. Experience the compelling revival of Friel’s masterpiece return to Belfast as part of the Lyric Theatre’s 75th anniversary season. "A quietly devastating study of pain recollected and the transfiguring nature of memory. It is one of those rare works of art audiences are destined to recall as a deeply personal experience, and you'll find yourself trying to sort out the different visions of reality… long after the play is over." — The New York Times The Company Lisa Dwyer Hogg Grace Conleth Hill Frank Hardy Chris McCurry Teddy Brian Friel Writer Emma Jordan Director Stuart Marshall Set Designer Paul Keogan Lighting Designer Enda Kenny Costume Designer Garth McConaghie Composer & Sound Designer Close Date & Times Date & Times Date Time Fri 30 Oct 2026 19:30 Limited Availability Sat 31 Oct 2026 14:30 Sold Out Sat 31 Oct 2026 19:30 Choose seats Sun 01 Nov 2026 14:30 Limited Availability Tue 03 Nov 2026 19:30 Choose seats Wed 04 Nov 2026 19:30 Choose seats Thu 05 Nov 2026 14:30 Choose seats Thu 05 Nov 2026 19:30 Choose seats Fri 06 Nov 2026 19:30 Limited Availability Sat 07 Nov 2026 14:30 Sold Out Sat 07 Nov 2026 19:30 Limited Availability Sun 08 Nov 2026 14:30 Audio Described Choose seats Tue 10 Nov 2026 19:30 Choose seats Wed 11 Nov 2026 19:30 Captioned Choose seats Thu 12 Nov 2026 14:30 Choose seats Thu 12 Nov 2026 19:30 Choose seats Fri 13 Nov 2026 19:30 Limited Availability Sat 14 Nov 2026 14:30 Limited Availability Sat 14 Nov 2026 19:30 Limited Availability Reviews “One of the best productions of Faith Healer you’re ever likely to see” “Luminous revival of Brian Friel's Masterpiece” “Beautifully Crafted”

How Can Cinema Be a Tool for Anti-Racism? Panel Discussion

In 2005, the Belfast Film Festival curated a series of screenings and commissioned a publication on racism in Belfast. This was in response to multiple media outlets describing the city as ‘the most racist’ in the world, and was an attempt to understand how cinema and the moving image can be intertwined with race and racism. 20 years have passed and the world is almost unrecognisable. The advent of social media and the blurred lines of news and fake news has created an environment in which racist pogroms can be incited through AI-generated posts. When the moving image is being manipulated to manipulate others, how can cinema be used to combat this hatred? This panel discussion brings together activists, community workers and film scholars to discuss the question posed and how cinema might fill a vacuum, on a community level, where our own political system has failed. Taking part in the panel will be: Dr Kim-Marie Spence (QUB) Kim-Marie Spence is Lecturer in Cultural Industries and Policy at Queen’s University Belfast. Everytime

The upcoming Austrian director with a singular vision, Sandra Wollner, returns with her latest film, a story of a family tragedy, a trip to Tenerife in the hope of finding existential answers, and one woman’s relationship with her daughters and a teenaged family friend. With reference to small, personal gestures that almost go unnoticed, patterns of behaviour, and the deeply forged bonds of childhood, youth and parenthood, the film captures the precarity of young life and the mystery of memory while being continually surprising and captivating, like a meandering dream. It’s a moving film with a quietly bold style and nontraditional method of storytelling, set against the backdrop of both urban Berlin’s sleek lines and the rugged volcanic coastline of Tenerife’s north coast. The film was screened at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year where it won the prestigious Un Certain Regard award for emerging filmmakers, and is the German entry for the 2027 Oscars.

Craft NI Showcase @ RUA 2026

Craft NI are delighted to be invited back for a second year to present a Guest Showcase at RUA’s 145th Annual Exhibition! The Royal Ulster Academy of Arts (RUA) returns to the Ulster Museum this autumn for its 145th Annual Exhibition, bringing together around 350 works by artists from Northern Ireland, across Ireland and further afield. Craft NI will present a guest showcase within the exhibition, bringing together a curated selection of contemporary craft works spanning various disciplines such as ceramics, glass, jewellery, textiles, metalwork and furniture. The showcase brings together works that explore new, contemporary interpretations of the natural colours of the Irish landscape: from bespoke furniture and blown glass to silversmithing, ceramics and handcrafted jewellery, the works sit in conversation with one another, creating a shared canvas of the local landscape and its influence on the makers. Participating designer-makers include Adam Frew, Andrea Spencer, Anima Roos, Anna Smyth, Cara Murphy (RUA Academician), Carla Pennie McBride, Céline Traynor, Joanne Lamb, John Piekaar, Mark Hanvey, Matthew Chambers, Rauni Higson, Sarah Cathers, Scott Benefield, Seliena Coyle and Shauna McCann. The showcase highlights the breadth and vitality of the local craft sector, with an emphasis on the quality, creativity and technical skill evident in the work of NI designer-makers.

The Earth is the First Body: an Exhibition by Botanic Gardens Artist-in-Residence Kerrie Hanna The Earth is the First Body is a new exhibition by artist Kerrie Hanna, created during her residency at Botanic Gardens. Using inks, pigments and charcoal made from plants growing in the Gardens, Kerrie has explored the stories, history and living landscape of this unique place. The exhibition looks at the Gardens' past, including the movement of plants around the world during Victorian times, while also highlighting the important work of protecting plants and biodiversity today. Through stained glass and other artworks, The Earth is the First Body invites us to think about our connection to the natural world and our role in caring for it. Join us for the exhibition opening event and be among the first to see the work. The exhibition officially opens to the public on 24 October and runs until 6 December.

Welcome to the table

As part of Irish Design Week 2026 Welcome to the table is a participatory visual project and exhibition exploring belonging, third culture identity and cultural exchange through the lens of food, table settings, and shared meal rituals. You are invited to co-create table environments inspired by different cultures and ways of living, with each table becoming a visual expression of heritage, cultural traditions, rituals as well as contemporary habits. The project is rooted in the idea that identity is not only shaped by nationality but by lived experience, creativity, migration and memory and that it continues to evolve. Through designed tableware, surfaces, vessels and place settings, audiences are invited to experience different cultures. From creating centrepieces with natural materials to exploring zines and Tunisian cuisine, our workshops during Irish Design Week 2026 will turn ideas into objects and shared experiences, with the resulting tables and stories displayed at Belfast Central Library and Second Nature. Bernat Klein: Influence & Inspiration

Craft NI Gallery in partnership with Belfast School of Art, Live Borders Museums & Galleries and The Bernat Klein Foundation, is delighted to present a capsule exhibition of selected work that shares the legacy of Bernat Klein (1922 – 2014), textile designer and manufacturer, artist and colourist. Colour connects every aspect of Klein’s creative practice that lasted a lifetime. Whether in his innovation of 1960s couture mohair tweeds or printed textiles, or evident in his work as an artist and colourist. Klein encompassed the importance of place in exploring his visual language of colour and texture. There will also be a sister exhibition (details to follow) at Belfast School of Art and a symposium in November. Both exhibitions illustrate Klein’s influence across design, architecture, visual arts, as well as his significant creative and cultural contribution to Scotland. Original archive pieces give context to the work of contemporary practitioners who have been inspired by The Klein legacy, and which still holds relevance today. Who was Bernat Klein? Serbian born designer Bernat Klein (1922 – 2014) emigrated to the UK in the post-war period and based his textile manufacturing business in the Scottish Borders (1951 – 1992). In a career spanning six decades, Klein found international success in the interlarded spheres of visual arts, fashion, textiles design, architecture, industrial design, and colour consultancy. He sold couture fabrics to leading couriers such as Chanel and Dior, gained recognition in Scandinavia and North America, and realised two important buildings with modernist architect Peter Womersley (1923 – 1993).
