Damian Mc c arthy Directorial Masterclass
We are thrilled to welcome Damian McCarthy, the twisted mind behind ODDITY, CAVEAT and most recently HOKUM, to this year’s festival to take part in a directing masterclass as part of our Long Short Weekend. McCarthy’s career began with some skin-crawling shorts which screened and won awards at festivals around the world. His feature debut, CAVEAT, screened in 2020 before being added to Shudder and becoming a worldwide sensation. He followed this with ODDITY in 2024, before his biggest feature yet in HOKUM, starring Adam Scott. Despite his meteoric rise, his work retains a deeply Irish sensibility: darkly humorous and versed in folklore, scratching at that paranoid, uncomfortable itch at the back of the brain. The conversation will be moderated by actor, writer and director Clare Monnelly (star of Aislinn Clarke’s FRÉWAKA). Featuring some of Damian’s shorts, some clips from his films, and some from the work that inspired him, this will be an indispensable evening for filmmakers and film fans alike. This masterclass is sponsored by Northern Ireland Screen . This event will be live captioned.
Wild Horse Nine
Martin McDonagh returns with another tragicomic two-hander with a razor-sharp script and outstanding performances from a stellar cast. After the success of The Banshees of Inisherin, McDonagh has turned his attention to Chile in the 1970s, where two CIA men discuss morality and mortality during a dispatch to the vanishingly remote and metaphorically rich Easter Island. With John Malkovich as the ailing Chris, mentor to Sam Rockwell’s Lee, and idiosyncratic support from Steve Buscemi, Parker Posey and Tom Waites, the film is an accidental allegory for present-day politics with trademark bittersweet notes, sweeping landscapes and strategically-placed horses. This screening has Audio Description available.

When Jonathan Harker arrives at a remote Transylvanian castle, he discovers that his mysterious host, Count Dracula, is a centuries-old vampire who feeds upon the blood of the living. As Dracula's reign of terror spreads across Europe, the determined Professor Van Helsing embarks on a desperate battle to destroy the Prince of Darkness before more innocent lives are claimed. Screenings include cinema exclusive short film (10 mins) exploring the film's restoration, featuring an introduction from John Gore.

PANCHIKO
Singular Artists Presents: Panchiko On July 21st, 2016, a user on 4chan’s /mu/ board posted a photo of a mysterious CD they’d found at a record store in Nottingham, UK: a rough-worn demo titled D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L, purportedly released in 2000 by four musicians: Owain, Andy, Shaun, and John. The listener uploaded the ripped audio—the recordings sounded like they were plagued with disc rot—to file-sharing sites, and later YouTube, where they began circulating among internet music circles. The record’s sensationalist appeal was multifold. Was this an honest-to-God ’90s curio? A prank hatched by internet-savvy teens? An internet experiment in nostalgia, in the spirit of vapourwave? Nobody knew. So the Panchiko hive mobilised, gathering on subreddits and discord servers, examining every square inch of the packaging for potential clues, and even calling the Nottingham record store where D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L had allegedly sprung up in the first place. “I woke up one day,” recounts Owain, “and ping—there’s a message on a defunct Facebook page of mine, ‘Hello, you’ll probably never read this, but are you the lead singer of Panchiko?’” The query took Owain by shock; to his and Andy’s knowledge, D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L> had never been uploaded to the internet. The Panchiko fandom finally made contact the following day, when they received their reply from Owain, a simple “Yeah.” At last, the world had confirmation: not only were Panchiko not 14-year-old kids, they were the real deal, right down to the disk rot. Panchiko are excited to embark on a European tour, having amassed hundreds of millions of streams. They play The Belfast Empire on 30th October 2026. TAKKUUK Sold out
An extraordinary immersive journey into the Arctic, infrared cinematography and a hypnotic BICEP score, draw audiences into the powerful stories of Indigenous artists navigating a rapidly changing world. TAKKUUK, meaning ‘look closely’ in Inuktitut, was co-created by BICEP, visual artist Zak Norman, filmmaker Charlie Miller, and seven Indigenous collaborators across Greenland and Sápmi, as part of the EarthSonic initiative. Specially built infrared cameras transform familiar Arctic landscapes into something strange and otherworldly, while the featured artists open up about what it means to holdonto language, land and identity when so much conspires against continuity. Through sound, storytelling and performance, they show how culture endures under external pressure, including accelerating climate change. The result is a genuinely collaborative work that sits somewhere between documentary realism and artistic abstraction, giving Indigenous voices the space to speak on their own terms. Presented within the extraordinary surrounds of Studio Ulster, hailed as the world’s most advanced virtual production facility, TAKKUUK brings together cutting-edge technology and Indigenous storytelling in a setting unlike any other. Programmed in partnership with Ulster Museum & Studio Ulster. Contains strobing sequences. 14+. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult. Contains strobing sequences. Age 14+. Bach Unseen | David McCann | Northern Lights Mini-Fest Sold out
The evening begins with Bach’s beloved Cello Suite No. 1 in G major, performed by solo cellist David McCann in traditional concert lighting. As the final notes fade, darkness envelops the room and three cellists emerge within a new work inspired by Bach’s suite. Drawing on fragments and resonances from the original music, the performers gradually move throughout the space, altering their relationship to one another and to the audience. Without a visual reference, sound becomes fluid and unpredictable. Melodies appear at a distance, echoes emerge from unexpected directions, and familiar material is reshaped through movement and perspective. The work invites listeners to experience music not as a fixed object on a stage, but as a living presence unfolding all around them. Please note: Due to the low-light nature of this concert, late entry will not be permitted. Much of the concert will take place in complete darkness, and for the safety and experience of all audience members, you will not be permitted to leave your seat until the concert has ended. BlackGate
Presented by Moving on Music in association with Belfast International Arts Festival 2026, BlackGate is a new project from Irish double-bassist Caimin Gilmore ( Crash Ensemble ) that explores the world of contemporary music, pop, classical, folk, and other. Released to widespread acclaim in 2025 through the New Amsterdam (US) & Ten Spot (IRL) labels, their self-titled debut album is a genre-fluid gem that could slip into multiple sections of the most considered of record collections. Performed by renowned cellist Kate Ellis , harpist Lavinia Meijer and Caimin Gilmore on Double Bass, the music is a cross-genre brew that pulls from Caimin’s hugely interesting and varied career. It had its world premiere at Kilkenny Arts Festival in 2024 and has since been performed at the New Music Dublin Festival , PS21 Chatham Groundtone Festival , the Phoenix Gallery Vermont , and The Bridge Studios in Brooklyn. With a programme that also includes works by Philip Glass , Lavinia Meijer, Gabriella Smith , Benedict Schlepper Connolly and Ann Cleare , we are delighted to welcome BlackGate to Belfast. It’s a project that deserves the keenest ears in every city. Gilmore’s staggering ‘Blackgate’ suite is a triumph of tonality and sonorities… a flurry of beautiful and brilliant ideas woven into an elemental odyssey of an album. The Goo As much as this band is working in a neoclassical space, they are also extremely conversant in contemporary music, and this record really has its feet in both… It’s a beautiful record. BECOME A MEMBER One of Brian Friel’s most enduring plays, Faith Healer returns in a production that brings together three acclaimed Northern Irish actors, Conleth Hill, Lisa Dwyer Hogg and Chris McCurry. Faith Healer weaves an extraordinary tale of a travelling healer who, after making his way through Wales and Scotland, returns to his homeland of Ireland in the hope of regaining his fading powers. Frank Hardy offers miracle cures to the sick and suffering, but as a man who is part showman, part shaman, his gift is astonishing and dangerously unreliable. Frank, his wife Grace, and his manager Teddy, each recounts their shared life on the road. As their memories clash and competing versions of the past emerge, Friel’s spellbinding prose crafts a powerful and haunting exploration of memory, belief and the stories we tell. Hailed by The Guardian (2024) as one of the greatest plays of the twentieth century, this play has captivated audiences internationally since its 1979 Broadway premiere. Experience the compelling revival of Friel’s masterpiece return to Belfast as part of the Lyric Theatre’s 75th anniversary season. "A quietly devastating study of pain recollected and the transfiguring nature of memory. It is one of those rare works of art audiences are destined to recall as a deeply personal experience, and you'll find yourself trying to sort out the different visions of reality… long after the play is over." — The New York Times The Company Lisa Dwyer Hogg Grace Conleth Hill Frank Hardy Chris McCurry Teddy Brian Friel Writer Emma Jordan Director Stuart Marshall Set Designer Paul Keogan Lighting Designer Enda Kenny Costume Designer Garth McConaghie Composer & Sound Designer Close Date & Times Date & Times Date Time Fri 30 Oct 2026 19:30 Limited Availability Sat 31 Oct 2026 14:30 Sold Out Sat 31 Oct 2026 19:30 Choose seats Sun 01 Nov 2026 14:30 Limited Availability Tue 03 Nov 2026 19:30 Choose seats Wed 04 Nov 2026 19:30 Choose seats Thu 05 Nov 2026 14:30 Choose seats Thu 05 Nov 2026 19:30 Choose seats Fri 06 Nov 2026 19:30 Limited Availability Sat 07 Nov 2026 14:30 Sold Out Sat 07 Nov 2026 19:30 Limited Availability Sun 08 Nov 2026 14:30 Audio Described Choose seats Tue 10 Nov 2026 19:30 Choose seats Wed 11 Nov 2026 19:30 Captioned Choose seats Thu 12 Nov 2026 14:30 Choose seats Thu 12 Nov 2026 19:30 Choose seats Fri 13 Nov 2026 19:30 Limited Availability Sat 14 Nov 2026 14:30 Limited Availability Sat 14 Nov 2026 19:30 Limited Availability Reviews “One of the best productions of Faith Healer you’re ever likely to see” “Luminous revival of Brian Friel's Masterpiece” “Beautifully Crafted”

Wicker
Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson’s wonderfully eccentric fable is, at its core, a gentle love story starring Olivia Colman, Alexander Skarsgård and Peter Dinklage. On the outskirts of a village by the sea, lives a Fisherwoman; smelly, single and perpetually ridiculed. One day, fed up with her stuffy, small-minded neighbours, she commissions herself a husband to be made from wicker. In an otherwise conservative town, this unconventional romance sparks outrage, jealousy and chaos.
Ken Russell's The Devils Sold out
Censored for more than half a century, Ken Russell’s visionary masterpiece returns to the big screen fully restored in 4K and cut to Russell’s direction - the first publicly released version of the film as intended by the filmmaker. An enduring masterpiece of cinema starring Oliver Reed and Vanessa Redgrave, Ken Russell’s The Devils is a prescient epic of obsession and corruption, and a defining work of art from a seminal filmmaker. Inspired by the true story of 17th-century priest Urbain Grandier, accused of bewitching a convent of nuns, the film lays bare the collusion of church and state through a searing vision of religious persecution, collective hysteria and institutional corruption. Unveiled at the 79th Cannes Film Festival, the definitive version arrives 55 years after the film’s original release. In addition to powerhouse performances from Reed and Redgrave, Ken Russell’s The Devils showcases the stunning work of artists at the peak of their craft. The 8.45pm screening on Fri 30 Oct will include an in-person introduction by Mark Kermode.
Gary Meikle: Yer Maw
Gary Meikle: Yer Maw returns to the stage with another new show which has quickly become the yearly norm for him now, coming to Ulster Hall on 31 October 2026! Hi guys it’s me, Gary. These blurbs do my head in if I’m honest, each year I need to sit and write one out before I even know what stories I’m gonna share, well I mean I don’t have to write one I could pay something else to do it but f*** that they’d just write some mundane vague crap which I can clearly do myself. At least this way you know I've written it personally. So what's the new show about? Again, I don’t yet, but it will contain at least one ‘yer maw’ Joke, what I do know is that it’ll be another brand new 80-90 minutes of stories, opinions and observations about me and my family as well as you all its always about people and the mad shit we do, sometimes animals but more often than not it's about people and the stupid scenarios we end up in. I wonder if that's now enough wordage to cover the minimum blurb requirement? I guess we'll see, and I’ll see you all soon maybe - oh, one last thing, my show isn’t suitable for small people, some of it might be about them, in fact it definitely will but, yeah they ain’t getting in :)

Ken Russell's The Devils
Warning: The linked trailer contains flashing images which may affect viewers who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy.
