After premiering his widely anticipated longform documentary at various international festivals (including Docs Ireland) earlier this year, Mark Cousins excitingly returns to Belfast Film Festival with another chapter. Following on from his hugely influential, 15-hour The Story of Film: An Odyssey, and the subsequent, A Story of Children and Film, and Women Make Film: A New Road Movie Through Cinema, Cousins continues his exploration of cinematic landscapes with this new journey through documentary history. Weaving through time, culture and place with his singular, inspirational passion for the medium, the chapter looks at documentary-making of the 1980s during the fall of the Soviet regime and the rise of the music documentary. Not to be missed! This screening will be followed by a Q&A with Director Mark Cousins and filmmaker Brian Henry Martin.

Vein of Folly 2 is Leo Miyagee’s and Eulogy Beats’ exploration of the evolution of UK hip hop — a project built from a lifetime of listening, absorbing and eventually contributing to the culture. Rather than treating UK hip hop as a fixed sound, the project moves through its shifting textures, rhythms and possibilities, reflecting on how dramatically the music has developed and how those changes have shaped Miyagee as an artist. The Sound of Belfast event expands that idea beyond the album. A curated listening experience will take audiences through selected moments from Vein of Folly 2, with Miyagee unpacking the sounds and ideas behind the music alongside stories from his own journey as someone who has grown up with UK hip hop and now makes it himself. Eulogy Beats, Miyagee’s collaborator across Vein of Folly 2, is central to that musical exploration. Together, they use the project to examine where the sound has been, where it has arrived and the possibilities still sitting ahead of it. The listening session will lead into a live Miyagee performance, bringing the project's ideas out of the speakers and into the room. Part listening party, part personal reflection and part live experience, Vein of Folly 2 is a snapshot of UK hip hop in motion — seen through the ears, memories and music of two artists helping shape its next chapter. £12.00 18+ Posted In: Live Music , Album Launches Tagged: 18+

Snow Patrol's Gary Lightbody has welcomed the celebration: "We are absolutely over the moon that the Oh Yeah Centre have decided to celebrate the 20th anniversary of our album Eyes Open as part of their Classic Albums night at the Sound Of Belfast Festival. Every year they pick an album to cover and the so far list is an impressive one (including OK Computer and Astral Weeks), so being in such exalted company is a massive honour. BECOME A MEMBER One of Brian Friel’s most enduring plays, Faith Healer returns in a production that brings together three acclaimed Northern Irish actors, Conleth Hill, Lisa Dwyer Hogg and Chris McCurry. Faith Healer weaves an extraordinary tale of a travelling healer who, after making his way through Wales and Scotland, returns to his homeland of Ireland in the hope of regaining his fading powers. Frank Hardy offers miracle cures to the sick and suffering, but as a man who is part showman, part shaman, his gift is astonishing and dangerously unreliable. Frank, his wife Grace, and his manager Teddy, each recounts their shared life on the road. As their memories clash and competing versions of the past emerge, Friel’s spellbinding prose crafts a powerful and haunting exploration of memory, belief and the stories we tell. Hailed by The Guardian (2024) as one of the greatest plays of the twentieth century, this play has captivated audiences internationally since its 1979 Broadway premiere. Experience the compelling revival of Friel’s masterpiece return to Belfast as part of the Lyric Theatre’s 75th anniversary season. "A quietly devastating study of pain recollected and the transfiguring nature of memory. It is one of those rare works of art audiences are destined to recall as a deeply personal experience, and you'll find yourself trying to sort out the different visions of reality… long after the play is over." — The New York Times The Company Lisa Dwyer Hogg Grace Conleth Hill Frank Hardy Chris McCurry Teddy Brian Friel Writer Emma Jordan Director Stuart Marshall Set Designer Paul Keogan Lighting Designer Enda Kenny Costume Designer Garth McConaghie Composer & Sound Designer Close Date & Times Date & Times Date Time Fri 30 Oct 2026 19:30 Limited Availability Sat 31 Oct 2026 14:30 Sold Out Sat 31 Oct 2026 19:30 Choose seats Sun 01 Nov 2026 14:30 Limited Availability Tue 03 Nov 2026 19:30 Choose seats Wed 04 Nov 2026 19:30 Choose seats Thu 05 Nov 2026 14:30 Choose seats Thu 05 Nov 2026 19:30 Choose seats Fri 06 Nov 2026 19:30 Limited Availability Sat 07 Nov 2026 14:30 Sold Out Sat 07 Nov 2026 19:30 Limited Availability Sun 08 Nov 2026 14:30 Audio Described Choose seats Tue 10 Nov 2026 19:30 Choose seats Wed 11 Nov 2026 19:30 Captioned Choose seats Thu 12 Nov 2026 14:30 Choose seats Thu 12 Nov 2026 19:30 Choose seats Fri 13 Nov 2026 19:30 Limited Availability Sat 14 Nov 2026 14:30 Limited Availability Sat 14 Nov 2026 19:30 Limited Availability Reviews “One of the best productions of Faith Healer you’re ever likely to see” “Luminous revival of Brian Friel's Masterpiece” “Beautifully Crafted”

Presented by Moving On Music We are delighted to welcome Mississippi Records founder Eric Isaacson for a visual and sonic presentation telling a story of global music scenes that both struggled and endeavoured throughout periods of authoritarianism. It’s a timely and compelling interweaving of people, place, past and present, and making music in troubling times. It’s the story of powerful interests trying to control music and how people fight back. This event explores folk art champions and the exploitative nature of the mainstream music industry – all while drawing on Eric’s comical and colourful personal experiences of the fascist creep. For seventeen years Mississippi Records operated with zero internet presence, released no digital music, and ran a cash only record store in Portland, Oregon. It became a true cult label – selling over one million records and helping (re)discover such artists as Michael Hurley, Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou, and The Space Lady. Come along and keep on keepin’ on.

Martin McDonagh returns with another tragi-comic two-hander with a razor-sharp script and outstanding performances from a stellar cast. After the success of The Banshees of Inisherin , McDonagh has turned his attention to Chile in the 1970s, where two CIA men discuss morality and mortality during a dispatch to the vanishingly remote and metaphorically rich Easter Island. With John Malkovich as the ailing Chris, mentor to Sam Rockwell’s Lee, and idiosyncratic support from Steve Buscemi, Parker Posey and Tom Waits, the film is an accidental allegory for present-day politics with trademark bittersweet notes, sweeping landscapes and strategically-placed horses.

Crustaceans… Corman… Cardioid microphones, The Peril at Pincer Point has it all! Plucky young Jim Baitte is sound-man on a hotly anticipated horror film. However his easy-going ways have put him behind on work and directly in the firing line. He gets one more chance to save his job: travel to the spectral isle of Pincer Point and capture the best sound ever recorded. This seemingly simple task is suddenly muddied by myths and missing persons, and Jim finds himself caught up in prophecies and plots beyond his comprehension. Why are there crabs everywhere? Could the legend of the ghost pirates be true? Is this what Coppola felt like in Hearts of Darkness? With shades of Bait & Blow-Up & maybe even Barton Fink, Pincer Point is a loving tribute to the importance of making art. From reveling in the means of its gloriously handmade production, to the task at hand of Jim’s oddity-ridden odyssey, that of listening to people and connecting with them, AI could never make a film like The Peril at Pincer Point. Take our sound advice and see it.
