His career in radio began in 2006 with the alternative music programme Electric Mainline, followed by the experimental music show Soundscapes with Stephen McCauley on BBC Radio Ulster. He now hosts the 3-hour alternative music show Stephen McCauley on BBC Radio Ulster on Friday nights which features interviews, sessions and live concerts from the likes of Pixies, Lisa Hannigan, Paul Noonan, Gemma Hayes, The Divine Comedy, David Holmes, Muireann Bradley and The Cure. He also presented Live at the Limelight and Live at Mussenden Temple in 2024 and was the host for the TV series Sounds New and Collaborations from 2018 to 2020.
